About the Book

In this book, titled Global Migration and Turkey, the issue of migrant mobility is examined in relation to Turkey — an issue of growing concern to the international community. The phenomenon of migration remains a constant topic on the global agenda for several reasons, including civil wars, ethnic and religious differences, climate change, natural disasters and economic factors. Consequently, irregular (forced) migration is spreading worldwide towards safer regions rather than safe and orderly migration. Displaced people take risks along migration routes in order to seek refuge in other countries and try to sustain their lives. Migrants are the subject of intense public debate in the countries they seek refuge in, raising security, economic, social and political issues. The prolonged stay of refugees in the host country fuels these debates further. Since 2011, Turkey has been forced to host millions of people displaced by the civil war in Syria, making it one of the countries with the largest refugee populations in recent years. Despite their temporary protection status, Syrians have been living in Turkey for over 13 years, making this one of the country's top priorities. This study aims to contribute to the existing literature on the subject by examining the refugee issue in Turkey from various perspectives within the context of global migration.
